The Wessex Weekender, 2009
Meets, Shows and Events
Due to the fact that the Victory wheelers had their Beaulieu show on the weekend usually occupied by the Wessex Weekender, the show had to be put back to the 25th and 26th of September. This put a few people off as you cannot predict what the weather will be like that late in the year.

The Weekender was held as last year, at Merley Court Touring Park near Wimbourne, where all pitches have electrical hook ups and are level. You also have the chance to use the leisure club at Oakdene Forest Park - with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sauna, spa room, gym, and full entertainment.

This year the Bristol contingent all made their own way there - what with us all having different work commitments to adjust our leaving times by. Richard was the first to arrive as he made his way there Thursday, I arrived mid-day Friday followed by Andy, then Dr Bob, Reg arriving late Friday night having just returned from France, and MT turned up late Saturday it being his turn to work a Saturday morning shift.
Friday night was the usual cruise into Poole, taking in the sunset over Sandbanks then stopping off for a walk around the Harbour area. I must admit this late in the year it was not quite the same atmosphere as we have in June, but I still love the quaintness of the docks area.

We all returned to the camp site and and started to consume alcohol (to celebrate Anne's birthday) and chill out whilst seated in Richard's awning. This went on till late until we departed to tents or caravans. We all woke the next day to cars, tents and caravans covered in early morning dew - we even put the fire on in the caravan for the first time in seven years of ownership.

Saturday was a do as you please day to be followed by the famous Wessex BBQ held early evening to get the same atmosphere as the summer brings. As usual you supply your own meat whilst the Wessex crew supply everything else to make us all happy. When all were filled and the cold started to draw in most made their way to the clubhouse to continue the evenings merriment in the warmth, followed later by refreshments in the Roberts' awning.
Sunday we all did different things, me and Sue drove on to Swanage, parked up for fish and chips, then returned via the Sandbanks ferry to Poole. This only cost £3.50 which I found good value for money and a great time saver. Most people had left when we returned, but as usual myself Bob and Rich enjoyed an extra day on site. Thanks go as always to Richard Black and all of the Wessex Crew for another good laid back weekend.
